The Laramie Fire Department initiated a full response after receiving a report of a fire at the Phillips 66 filling station at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12.

No injuries were reported.

Fire Marshall Mark Doyle says three engine companies, a command vehicle and an ambulance were dispatched to 1508 S. 3rd Street to a "very short-lived" blaze.

Doyle says the fire broke out while someone was working on a tow truck.  Doyle believes that the worker may have been using a grinder to work on the truck's exhaust when a spark flew into the drain and ignited a flammable liquid.

Doyle says the worker tried to extinguish the fire, but it only grew larger.  The worker moved an acetylene torch away from the flames and called 911.

First responders got the blaze under control fairly quickly and began departing at 9:16 p.m., less than an hour after being dispatched.

Doyle says the tow truck that was being worked on before the fire began sustained damage to its bed and blew a tire, but the building took no structural damage.
