The ninth annual Dooley Oil Classic wood bat baseball tournament will be hosted by the Laramie Rangers at Cowboy Field this Father’s Day weekend.

Rangers manager Brandon Ruckman is thrilled to have a bunch of games at home.

"It's always exciting to have it (a tournament) on your field. Teams like coming to Cowboy (Field), it's a little bit cooler (temperature) during the summer... I know it's a lot of work, but it will be worth it."

Action gets underway Thursday night and continues through Sunday afternoon. The schedule features one game the opening day, three on Friday, five Saturday and finally three match play games on Father’s Day.

Knowing it's a wood bat tournament, Ruckman says his squad will have to have a little different approach this weekend.

"You have to really square up balls to to get hits with wood bats. It's not as forgiving as it is with a metal bat... You just can't make errors and beat yourself if you want to win this tournament. It's going to be a good one."

There are six teams in this year’s tourney. In addition to the host Rangers, the Wheatland Lobos, Cheyenne Hawks, Spearfish, SD and two teams from the Blue Chip Baseball Academy in Colorado comprise the field.

Ruckman added, "It's going to be a good field, all-around."

Laramie (9-9) split their last four games last weekend in South Dakota.
