The Albany County Commissioners voted to approve a letter of support to commit to exploring local funding options to support Laramie County Community College's assumption of WyoTech operations and instructional buildings during a special meeting on Friday.

Senate Joint Resolution 1 would lower the amount of school funding that Wyoming provides to the levels spent by neighboring states.

According to a recent study, Wyoming is the only state entirely located west of the Mississippi River with a public school system that ranks among the nation’s 10 best.

The Wyoming Department of Education released data on high school graduation rates across the state. While Albany County's numbers were comparable with the state average, the school district is looking to student engagement and career readiness strategies to boost graduation numbers.

Currently, the state's 48 districts receive their funding in a block grant based on a metric of their attendance.

The full Legislature, which meets next year, will have the final say in the matter.

The event, "We Care About Our Mayor! Fundraiser for Summerville Family" is organized by the Montessori Parent Teacher Organization and will be held Thursday, Oct 19 at the school at 608 S. 4th Street.

The children were taken into protective custody and released to the Wyoming Department of Family Services.
