Road Construction

You know you're getting into the summer months in Laramie when you see road construction projects nearing their conclusions. Laramie will be seeing many road construction projects this summer, the most significant of which being the massive reconstruction of 30th and Grand; a project which is not completed, but is certainly in its concluding stages.

Your Question: I just drove over the Clark Street bridge and noticed how severely deteriorated it has become. When is the city going to make the badly needed repairs? I hope it's before somebody gets hurt!

Your Question: When is the City of Laramie planning on opening Grant Street between Snowy Range Road & Wyoming Avenue?

In Wyoming most of us are used to two seasons, winter and road construction. Now that the weather is turning warmer, it's time for summer road construction and street repair projects around the city of Laramie. Over the past few summers, main thorough-fares like Reynolds, Harney and 15th have been shut-down for major repairs.

Nothing like smoothing out a few bumps on the road. Just remember that while you have difficulties finding your way to the Albany County Public Library for the next month or two. All kidding aside, the library parking lot is having some much needed work done and it all gets started this Monday, May 7.

It's 5:30 p.m., you're driving home, and you happen to get caught at that same intersection... again. Being somewhere between a town and a city, Laramie is fortunate at times to not have substantially bad traffic, but there are certainly times to avoid particular areas of Laramie roads.

The construction at 30th and Grand is moving along on its projected timeline according to Resident Engineer Scott Taylor. With the pace maintained so far, it should wrap up by its original completion date of June 15.

Your Question: Why didn't the City or WYDOT take the time to paint lines and fix McCullum Street knowing that it was going to have more traffic due to the construction at 30th and Grand?

Now that the intersection at 30th Street and Grand Avenue has been closed for a few weeks, chances are that by now everyone is used to the detour routes and delays. I personally have noticed that the detour routes don't seem to be too congested unless you try to got hrough them weekdays at peek drive times. The northern detour route using Willett Street and running by the hospital is clearly longer with more stops than the southern route using Garfield Street. However the question is, during peak drive time is the northern detour actually quicker because it is used less.

The closure of the major 30th Street and Grand Avenue intersection might have just started yesterday but construction crews are making significant progress already. We stopped by the project this afternoon to see how things are going and to talk with local businesses about the impacts of the construction.
