In light of an outpouring of community support, the Big Laramie Fire Department has set up a trailer at The Butcher Block in West Laramie to collect donated items for the firefighters battling the Badger Creek Fire in the southern Snowy Range.

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved the 2018-2019 operating budget during their meeting Wednesday morning.

The Badger Creek Fire doubled in size Tuesday afternoon, from 2,300 acres to 5,244 acres, with growth primarily to the east.

The Badger Creek Fire has burned 2,300 acres after it made a large, wind-driven run Monday in southern Albany County on the Medicine Bow National Forest and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs for the fire.

The Forest Service said that as of 9 p.m. Sunday, the fire was roughly estimated at 100 acres and there is no containment. On Sunday, efforts were focused on evacuation, public safety and fire assessment.

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” by Roger Bean will run June 12-16 at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre.

Full evacuations are in place for Wold, Mountain Home and Wycolo according to Aimee Binning, Albany County Emergency Management coordinator.

The Pole Mountain Project has received a national award from the Coalition for Recreational Trails.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation says crews with Simon Contractors have started work to resurface a 10 mile section of WYO 130 in Albany County.

Personnel from the Albany County Emergency Management and Assessor’s office, in conjunction with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne and Farm Service Agency have assessed the area in Albany County Impacted by Wednesday’s tornado.
