Laramie Mayor Andrea Summerville said the City Council will meet with the Laramie Board of Health to discuss how to keep the health inspector position and the fee schedule that will make it possible.

Councilors will consider a resolution to amend the city’s budget in light of a steep decline in state-shared revenue, which was expected to be reduced by 43 percent.

Summerville said while the city council usually holds a meeting every year regarding economic development, this year is particularly important because of the significant change in the city’s funding.

Mayor Andrea Summerville said the city council wanted more information on certain aspects of the proposed ordinance before they moved forward with the second reading.

The ordinance would make it illegal to fire employees or refuse to provide housing or other services on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

As the city's green waste program comes to an end, city officials are trying to address issues that come with the change.

Mayor Andrea Summerville said the city council is reviewing the policy over concerns that the charge for a non-consensual tow was not always fair, with some tow companies on the city’s rotational list for non-consensual tows charging more than others.

The move is intended to bring Laramie into line with state statues regarding first offender treatments for controlled substance defendants in municipal court.

She said the biggest difference in the budget this year is that the city does has nearly no capital improvement program.
