A Michigan based traveling burlesque troupe will be hitting Laramie's Gryphon Theatre stage on August 8th.

However, the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque troupe's website says that the group is really only calling themselves "burlesque" for lack of any better term.  Troupe member Corey Ruffin says that really, the show the present is a fully realized indpendant musical.  "It's a two-hour long original musical.  It's all contemporary subject matter and music.  It's not jazz, feathers, fat ladies singing 'I've got the fever,' there's nothing  like it anywhere in the country."  Ruffin went on to say the troupe has produced 16 musicals since they began touring 8 years ago.

The performance at the Gryphon theater will represent the first time that the 18-member Super Happy Funtime Burlesque group will have performed in Wyoming.  "We've been through Colorado, Montana, Idaho, all that stuff.  We've only ever driven through Wyomning on the way to other shows.  So this is really exciting that we're actually going to stop there, for the first time."

During their Wyoming stop, the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque players and band will be performing what they call their Poorly Timed X-Mas Special, the story of which follows a 350 pound male strip-tease artist after he accidentally kills Santa Claus and has to take his place.  The timing of the Poorly Timed X-Mas Special is no accident.  Ruffin says that when you come from Michigan, winter traveling isn't much of an option.  "We travel the country from April to October, we pretty much can go anywhere from November to March, because we're buried under twelve feet of snow."

The Super Happy Funtime Burlesque's Poorly Timed X-mas Special is for audiences over 18, and may not be appropriate for more sensitive audience members.  Ruffin says "This is the show designed to find your line and cross it.  We will.  You may think you have a strong constitution, but we will get you at some point in those two hours."

Tickets vary in price from $8-$20 and are available through the Gryphon Theatre box office, or by clicking here:

Showtime is 7:30, Wednesday August 8th.
