UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING PRESS RELEASE:

The University of Wyoming Department of Music Faculty Recital Series will present “From Paris to Prague: Two Masterpieces,” Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

The performance features both the Summit Chamber Players and Kathleen McKeage, a music department academic professional lecturer and bass player.

The concert showcases the luminous “String Quartet” highlighting Maurice Ravel’s unique compositional style. Romantic Bohemian composer Antonin Dvorak’s “String Quintet #2 in G Major, Opus 77” adds double bass to the traditional string quartet for a richer, thicker timbre. In contrast to the sophistication of the Ravel quartet, this piece is passionate, emotional, and filled with longing for Dvorak’s homeland.

The Summit Chamber Players feature UW Department of Music faculty members  John Fadial, associate professor, and Sherry Sinift, lecturer, both on violin; Professor Jim Przygocki, viola; and Assistant Professor Beth Vanderborgh, cello. They are members of the Wyoming Arts Council artist roster and frequently perform across the state and throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
