Spring Construction Projects Starting Up Around Laramie

Warmer weather means the construction will begin work on several roads in Laramie. On Monday the full reconstruction of Vista Drive will begin as well as a short-term maintenance project on the Clark Street bridge according to the Wyoming Transportation Department.

Work on the Vista Drive project will go from the south entrance of Wal-Mart to Meadowlark Lane. WYDOT says workers will be on site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for five to six days a week until the project is completed at the end of August. Crews from Simon Contractors (out of Cheyenne) will widen the road so there will be a center turn lane and wider shoulders. They will also add curb and gutter with a sidewalk and bike path.

With such a big project, there will be detours with signs through the project area. The nice thing is that WYDOT says that access to Wal-Mart and Premier Bone and Joint (formerly Gem City Bone and Joint) will not be affected. The cost of the reconstruction is $1.7 million. WYDOT reports that it is paid for by federal funds with a 10 percent match from the City of Laramie.

Another project starting Monday is three days of maintenance work on the Clark Street Viaduct and WYDOT warns that delays are to be expected. Traffic will be single lane from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and from dawn to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

On April 2nd, another big project will get going at the intersection of 3oth Street and Grand Avenue. The intersection will be closed to travel through June 15th, but access to the businesses should be able to remain open. The joint project between WYDOT and the City of Laramie will add turn lanes, bring the intersection up to ADA standards, upgrade the storm sewers and drainage, improve traffic signals and replace two water lines.
