UPDATE:

A semi driver has been cited for careless driving after the crane he was hauling hit the Interstate 80 bridge over Walterscheid Boulevard in Cheyenne Friday afternoon.

Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Sgt. David Janes says 40-year-old Michael Buckridge of Henry, Nebraska, was headed south on Walterscheid when he hit the underside of the bridge.

Janes says it took crews nearly four hours to safely dislodge and remove the crane from the I-80 support truss.

As a safety measure, Walterscheid between Deming Drive and W. Fox Farm Road and the right lane of eastbound I-80 over Walterscheid will remain closed until inspectors determine the bridge is safe, which would be Monday at the earliest.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A portion of Walterscheid Boulevard and Interstate 80 in Cheyenne have been closed because of a semi that struck the I-80 bridge.

Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Sgt. David Janes says the semi, which was hauling a crane, was headed south on Walterscheid when it hit the underside of the bridge around 1:15 p.m.

Walterscheid has been closed between Deming Drive and W. Fox Farm Road while crews work to remove the crane.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has also closed the right-hand lane of eastbound I-80 just west of the S. Greeley Highway exit so crews can evaluate the structural safety of the bridge.

Janes says no one was injured in the incident.
