If you’re in the mood for something thought provoking and potentially terrifying, go to the Albany County Public Library tonight at 7:30p.m.

As a part of the library’s summer movie series, titled “Not Shown Before at A Theatre Near You” tonight’s offering features A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash. This film is a documentary about the predictable future based on current oil consumption and dependence on foreign sources. It is rated PG and runs 84 minutes. Winner of the Zurich Film Prize and named Best Documentary Feature at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, A Crude Awakening is sure to spark discussion for movie goers across the political spectrum. Detailed reviews are generally split, some criticize the sensationalism and “fear mongering” in the film, while others acknowledge that a little fear can inspire a healthy awareness of what we could reasonably face in the future. Controversy can serve as a good indicator that a topic is worth consideration, so head over to the Albany County Public Library to check it out. This is a free event, complete with popcorn. Donations are accepted and used to rent movies, provide snacks and upgrade film facilities at the library.
