RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — Many rivers in western and central Wyoming are receding, but the National Weather Service warns that high flows are expected to continue through Wednesday or Thursday.

Water levels remain high especially in the Wind, Green, Shoshone and Sweetwater river basins. The Wind River hit a record crest of 12.1 feet on Saturday afternoon.

However, cooler temperatures are slowing the mountain snowmelt that has been pouring into the rivers. Snow fell in the mountains of western Wyoming on Tuesday.

U.S. 26 west of Riverton has reopened to traffic after being closed several days last week because of water on the road.

In eastern Wyoming, residents cleaned up Tuesday from storms that spawned tornadoes and dropped hail up to the size of softballs.

There was one minor injury reported in Goshen County.
