RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — The U.S. Air Service is forming a new Civil Air Patrol unit in Riverton.

U.S. Air Service Public Affairs Officer Capt. Karl Falken says Civil Air Patrol units have been active in Wyoming since the corporation's infancy.

The nonprofit volunteer auxiliary helped deliver supplies during a 1949 blizzard that swept through parts of the state.

Most recently, the group provided disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The civilian auxiliary also assists in search and rescue missions, promotes aerospace education and provides curricula for local schools.

Falken is looking for recruits for the Riverton unit.

Once the recruitment process is complete, Falken says the unit's first task will be to place wreaths on the graves of veterans at cemeteries.
