The Laramie Community Recreation Center will temporarily close from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 3rd.  City staff strongly encourages the public to call ahead to verify hours at 721-5269 on Thursday in case the closure goes beyond the scheduled time.

The closure is part of the Emergency Backup Generator construction project and will consist of final testing and training according to a release from the city of Laramie.

“The Emergency Generator project is a result of an emergency planning need identified in response to the Laramie tornado event of 2008. The Recreation Center was identified as an excellent emergency shelter option; however, the lack of back-up emergency power was seen as a serious shortcoming for this type of use. The City of Laramie subsequently applied for, and received, a $250,000 grant from the State Lands and Investment Board (SLIB) consensus Mineral Royalty Grant (MRG) to fund the project one hundred percent. The Emergency Generator project, which will be fueld entirely by natural gas, is scheduled for completion in mid-February.” -Laramie Parks and Recreation
