Public Art Plan Meetings This Week
The final draft of Laramie’s community wide public art plan will be presented at two public meetings this week.
For the last several months, members of the Laramie community have come together to create a community wide public art plan for Laramie that utilizes best practices to guide choices about how temporary and permanent public art is developed and implemented.
The meetings are led by consultants, Renee Piechocki, Jennifer McGregor, and Meg Thompson. The Public Art Advisory team, made up of members of the City of Laramie, Laramie Main Street Alliance, Laramie Chamber Business Alliance, Laramie Beautification Committee and the University of Wyoming Art Museum, with the consultants, will be presenting a draft of the final plan to City Council on June 25th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Hall Chambers located at 406 East Ivinson. Another meeting will be held to present the final draft to the community on June 26th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Center at 365 W Grand Avenue.
The plan was developed using grant funds from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, Wyoming Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts as well as contributions from the collaborating partner organizations.
Team member Trey Sherwood of the Laramie Main Street Alliance said, “This has been a very rewarding process and we are excited to share our findings with the community. It will be bittersweet to say goodbye to Renee and Jennifer as they’ve done a wonderful job of gathering public feedback, opening our eyes to new possibilities and creating a framework for success. Once the plan is presented, the real work of implementation begins”.
