The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today selected managers for future construction projects at the university. They selected two Wyoming companies to manage two major construction projects at the university, as well as companies to continue projects.

The board voted and authorized the negotiation of a contract with Haseldon Constructors of Laramie to serve as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for the High Bay Research Facility. The facility will be built along N. 19th Street near the UW Centennial Complex and is an approximately $30 million project. It is funded with $15 million in state appropriations and $15 million in private gifts. Construction on the project is expected to begin in the winter/spring of 2015 with completion by summer 2016.

In addition, the board voted to contract with GE Johnson Construction of Jackson to serve as CMAR for the remodeling and expansion of the Corbett Pool Facility. That project is expected to cost approximately $21 million. Plans call to add 36,000 square feet and renovating 23,000 square feet of the Corbett Pool building, which is 40 years old. They will create a modern swimming and diving facility for UW’s intercollegiate swimming and diving teams.

Currently the pool is too short for teams to practice and too shallow for diving beyond the three meter springboard. The new plan includes an eight lane, 50-meter pool with moveable bulkheads, a diving tower and diving well and upper level seating. No timeline has been established for this project.

Also today, the board voted to retain the firm of By Architectural Means P.C. of Cheyenne, in association with Sink Combs Dethlefs of Denver, to provide architect/engineering services for the second phase of UW Arena Auditorium improvements. They have provided those services for the first phase of the project, which is underway this summer. It includes reconstruction of the basketball court, lower seating bowl and locker room areas. The second phase will include an addition to the east side of the building along with a new club room and Hall of Fame area. The preliminary estimate for the second phase of the project is $17 million with the total project costing about $30 million.

The board also voted today to contract with TDSi of Cheyenne in association with Historic Strategies of Birchunville, Pa., to update UW’s historic preservation plan. The consultant will review the 1999 historic preservation plan and suggest revisions. Estimated cost of the update is $125,000.

Lastly, the trustees approved an easement for the City of Laramie to establish a trail along the perimeter of the property next to Jacoby Golf Course. The trail would be used for running, walking and bicycling. The easement will be about 25 feet wide and two miles long, and the path will have a crushed gravel surface six to eight feet wide.
