If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably seen recent commercials advertising free pizza from Papa John’s if the Superbowl XLVI is “called” correctly by America and thought, what is this bogus hoax?

Well- to save you the time, I checked it out, and it turns out that this is not a hoax, and Papa John’s is really giving out free pizzas.  Not only that, if America “calls” the opening coin toss correctly, free Papa John’s will be giving out free 2-liter bottles of Pepsi MAX as well.

But what do I mean by “calling” the opening coin toss? Basically, the Papa John’s website has a feature giving you the opportunity to make your pick if you think the coin toss will be “heads” or “tails.”  If the majority of voters correctly pick the side that wins the toss, Papa John’s Rewards members will get a free large pizza and 2-liter bottle of Pepsi MAX.

What’s that? You’re not a rewards member, well that problem is easily solvable, all you have to do is sign up for the Papa John’s Rewards free online loyalty program.

It’s simple, painless, and a great way to get free food.  The only tough decision for you is… Heads or Tails?

Here are a few Superbowl Coin Toss facts to help you get through this deliberation…

  • In 45 Superbowls, heads has been called 23 times, tails has been called 22 times.
  • Of the 45 coin tosses in Superbowl history, 24 have come up heads, 21 have come up tails.
  • The NFC has won 24 of the 45 Superbowls, but have dominated with an astonishing 31 coin toss wins.
  • The AFC has only won 21 Superbowls to go along with a mere 14 coin toss wins.
