SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — A company looking to open a coal mine in Wyoming has resubmitted a state permit application.

Ramaco Carbon officials said Friday their latest proposal for the mine in Sheridan County exceeds both state and federal regulations.

The Wyoming Environmental Quality Council in 2017 rejected a permit application for the Brook Mine, saying Ramaco needed to do more to address environmental concerns.

Some local residents and the Powder River Basin Resource Council landowners' group worried the mine could affect groundwater and cause ground above the mine to shift and settle.

Project manager Jeff Barron with WWC Engineering says he's confident Ramaco's revised application filed with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality addresses the concerns.

The mine would supply coal for research into turning coal into usable products.
