Meeting In Laramie To Discuss Veterans Affairs Medical Centers

A meeting to discuss the VA Clinic in Laramie will be held on Thursday, September 25. The meeting will take place at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Post 14 located at 417 East Ivinson Street.

The meeting provides an open forum to all veterans, their families and the community to voice opinions and concerns regarding the clinic in Laramie as well as experiences at other VA Clinics in which veterans have received treatment. 

Public Affairs Officer Samuel House says the primary focus of the meeting is to look at how veterans are being treated. He says this includes the Laramie Mobile Telehealth Clinic at 112 South Fifth Street as well as facilities in Cheyenne, Denver and elsewhere.

“The VA has been in the media quite a bit lately. Most of it has been negative,” says House. “This is our opportunity to go out there and actually listen to our veterans in each of the communities that we serve.”

House says the topics at the meeting can range from very broad and general topics to case specific issues. He adds that previous meetings have helped the VA to look at the system to find how to best treat veterans.

In addition, he says specific issues have been addressed through these meetings. House says personal testimony of specific experiences such as being refused treatment or asking why they need to go to another facility for treatment have been looked into on an individual basis.

Meetings will be also be held in Wheatland and Torrington on September 25 for veterans to discuss their clinics. The meeting in Wheatland will take place at the VFW Post 3558 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting in Torrington will be held at the VFW Post 2915 at 4 p.m.

The general public is welcome to attend the meeting. However, the focus will be on veterans, families and beneficiaries.

The Mobile Telehealth Clinic in Laramie provides services to veterans who have minor health issues. House says the advantage of a Telehealth Clinic is that the individuals at the clinic are able to make medical observations over the internet and through camera communication with doctors in Cheyenne.

“For example, if they have an ear infection, the individual in Laramie would be able to place the probe into, or the camera into, the patient’s ear, and then the doctor here would be able to see what’s going on with that veteran,” says House.

The clinic is open every Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every other Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those wishing to schedule an appointment at the Telehealth Clinic can do so by calling 1-888-483-9127, ext. 3816.
