A man facing two drug possession charges pleaded not guilty on both counts Thursday in Albany County District Court and was remanded to custody because he didn't have anyone to sign for his release.

Shane Daniel Clemence pleaded not guilty to possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, each as a third or subsequent offense. If convicted on both charges he could fade up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Court documents say Clemence was arrested July 20 after Albany County Sheriff's deputies approached a vehicle in which Clemence was a passenger.

A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a backpack containing several hypodermic needles, several small plastic bags containing methamphetamine powder and a tin that held marijuana, according to the affidavit.

When arrested, Clemence allegedly told a deputy that he had a capped needle in one of his pockets. When booked into the Albany County Detention Center, a deputy allegedly found a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine in Clemence's pocket.

Court documents say Clemence told a deputy that the backpack, needles, methamphetamine and marijuana all belonged to him. He allegedly also said he liked to save methamphetamine and store it away for times he couldn't afford to buy more, and that he uses hypodermic needles to inject methamphetamine into his forearms.

Judge Jeffrey Donnell on Thursday set Clemence's trial for Dec. 7-8. Clemence was out on $10,000 signature bond, but the person who signed asked the court to be let off.

Donnell agreed to do so and left Clemence's bond at the same amount. But without someone to sign for it, and not being able to sign for it himself, Clemence was remanded to custody.
