The #Giving Tuesday movement celebrated its third year this week, and a long-time Laramie organization joined in the celebration for the first time. Solid Rock Outdoor Ministries, or SROM, has been in Laramie for the last 30 years. The group turned to their alumni on #Giving Tuesday to say thank you for all they have been given.

#Giving Tuesday is a movement designed to change how people look at the giving season. People are encouraged to give back to their communities, charities, and local non-profits and share how they give.

Deborah Flannery, Development Director for SROM, says the organization reached out to those who have gone through their programs to show their appreciation, and the result was even more giving. Many gave back to the group.  SROM then encouraged those who gave to them to take an unselfie photo showing how they give and why.

Flannery says that the group appreciates all the ways people have given to them. She says the group raised above an estimated $2,600 for the day.

While this is SROM’s first year participating in the #Giving Tuesday movement, they plan to continue in the future.

“It’s grown exponentially since the first year,” Flannery says about the movement. “And there’s no doubt that it will continue.”

Solid Rock Outdoor Ministries is a Christian group which takes students to the wilderness in Wyoming for expeditions. It is currently one out of only ten groups designated as Master Trainer for the Leave No Trace Program and is the only Christian group to have the honor.
