Laramie’s domination of 4A boys cross country continued Saturday, as the Plainsmen won their fifth consecutive team championship.

Led by three runners in the top seven, Laramie scored 63 points and beat their chief challenger, Kelly Walsh, by 12 points. Jackson came in third with 85 points.

The individual champion streak also continued, and it stayed in the family. Junior Philip Henry pulled away from Natrona’s Garrett Condelario for a three second victory. Henry ran the 5K course at the Sheridan V.A. Hospital grounds in 15:52.05.

Teammates Albert Steiner and Liam McInroy, both juniors, came in third and seventh, respectively. All three will earn All-State honors for a second consecutive season.

Senior Adrian Johnson took 19th, and when freshman Mason Swingholm crossed the line in 33rd place, it was enough for the Plainsmen to claim victory yet again.

Laramie Lady Plainsmen

The Lady Plainsmen nearly made it a sweep atop the team podium, as they finished in second place in the 4A girls team race.

Laramie placed three runners in the top 10, but fell eight points shy of state champion Jackson. The Lady Broncs scored 46 points, and the Lady Plainsmen came in with 54 points. Central took third with 68 team points.

The top finisher for LHS in the girls division was freshman Abigail Whitman. She ran the 5K course in 18:36.63 for sixth place. Fellow freshman teammate Emmy Johnson took seventh and was 11 seconds behind. Senior Maria Smith-Lopez came in tenth. Smith-Lopez receives her third All-State honor, while Whitman and Johnson earn it for the first time in their careers.

Jackson’s Anna Gibson won the race in a record time of 17:35.20. The Lady Broncs also had runners in fourth, ninth, 11th and 21st. It’s their first title as a member of class 4A in their first year in the division.

Future is Bright

Both Laramie teams will have solid cores returning next season. The Plainsmen bring back four of their top five at state, while the Lady Plainsmen have three of their top five coming back.
