The Laramie Montessori Community Organization and Laramie Montessori School are inviting the public to the 3rd Annual Montessori Day on Sunday, January 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Center Multipurpose Gym. The event is free and refreshments will be provided.

The 2012 Montessori Day centers on the now-realized Laramie Montessori School, a new public charter school, and its newly renovated home in the Lincoln Community Center. You might remember our initial story on the school right after it's opening this past year. The Laramie Montessori School is a free, public Montessori charter school with Albany County School District #1. You can get more information on the Montessori method of teaching here

The Montessori Day will allow people to tour the new school facilities, provide opportunities to learn more about Montessori education through hands-on activities, and include a performance from current students enrolled at LMS. If you are looking to potentially have your child enrolled, this is a great time to come and see what the school is all about.

The event will also feature special guest speaker Sonnie McFarland, who will present a talk on “Getting to the Heart of Montessori.”  Sonnie, who began her career as a Montessori educator more than 35 years ago, was selected as a 2011 American Montessori Society Living Legacy.  Sonnie is a dynamic speaker, workshop leader, and retreat facilitator, and has published several books and articles on peace education, including “Honoring the Light of the Child - Activities to Nurture Peaceful Living Skills in Young Children.”  She has served as Head of School at the Montessori School of Denver and Board Member of the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and the American Montessori Society, where she currently chairs their Peace Committee.
