A Laramie man was sentenced to jail for felony drug possession Thursday in District Court.

Taylor Doroha, 23, was sentenced to 90 days in the Albany County Detention Center, followed by 4 years of probation in lieu of serving 3-6 years in prison. Judge Jeffrey Donnell ordered Doroha to serve 100 hours of community service within 15 months of his release.

Doroha was arrested July 22 after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper stopped him for speeding on I-80.

According to court documents, the trooper recognized the smell of raw marijuana after approaching the car. Doroha eventually told the trooper he would find "maybe a gram" of marijuana.

A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, and 3.8 grams of cocaine.

Both the prosecution and defense recommended a term of probation at Thursday's sentencing hearing.  However, Judge Jeffrey Donnell was not convinced that probation would be effective.

"One of the things I have to consider here is if you will succeed on probation," said Donnell.

After being released on bond, Doroha was allegedly found in possession of marijuana and $2,250 in cash at a party in Rock Springs.  That case is still pending.

"We will eventually do probation, but first you're gonna do a little time to see if you can't get the point," said Donnell.
