The 2016 Class 4A Wyoming State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships will take place Thursday and Friday in Gillette.

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen will have 22 state qualifiers competing over two days. Laramie will have 33 of the 36 possible line-up spots filled in individual events, plus three relay teams in action.

Gillette has won three straight team titles and goes in as a heavy favorite to win a fourth in a row. The Lady Plainsmen have placed second each of the last two years. They were fourth in 2013. The last title for the Laramie girls’ was in 2001.

Individually, there are some favorites for LHS. Sophomore Teryn White is the one to beat on the diving board. Freshman Olivia McPherson will vie for the crown in the 50 freestyle. In addition, junior Maggie Clerkin and sophomore Carter Burchi will contend in their individual events, as well.

Laramie head coach Tom Hudson provides an outlook into the meet.

The state championships begin Thursday with the diving prelims and semifinals at 2 p.m. The swim prelims will follow 30-minutes after the conclusion of diving. The finals for all events will start at 10 a.m. Friday. The competition is taking place at the Campbell County Aquatics Center in Gillette.
