The Laramie Kiwanis Club presented their first Teacher Appreciation Award to Laramie High School Teacher Will Plumb at their meeting today, Jan. 17.

Kiwanis Club Secretary Steve Wagner said that Plumb was selected because of his dedication to the Key Club.

“Mr. Plumb organized the Key Club – the Kiwanis youth club at LHS- several years ago and through thick and thin, has kept it running smoothly ever since,” Wagner said.

Wagner said that the Kiwanis Club realized that while many community groups that recognize “students of the month,” there was no one honoring teachers.

“We believe that teachers are the reasons for a student’s success, so we started the program,” Wagner said. “We selected Mr. Plumb as our first recipient because of his long-time work with the Key Club.”

Superintendent Dr. Jubal Yennie and Laramie County Community College Instructor Larry Struempf each gave short statements before presenting the award to Plumb.

“The LHS Key Club would not exist without Plumb,” Struempf said.

Plumb thanked the Kiwanis Club for the recognition and credited the students involved in LHS Key Club for its success.
