Costumes, cannonballs and a cool dip into Huck Finn Pond are sure to be seen at the Jackalope Jump this Saturday. In addition to the fun atmosphere, the event will raise funds for Special Olympics Wyoming.

Registration for jumpers is open to everyone and available online, or organizer Ami Cass says there will be registration available on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in LaPrele Park. The jumping will start around 11 a.m. and will continue until everyone has taken a quick dip into Huck Finn Pond. Last year about 70 jumpers participated, but Cass says they are hoping for more this year with the warmer weather forecast.

Various prizes will be given to jumpers for most money raised and best costumes. They will be given out at the post-jump party at the Elks Lodge while everyone warms up with a chili feed.

Money raised by the event will be used to pay for Special Olympics athletes in Laramie to register for events, use of facilities and help cover travel expenses. Special Olympics Wyoming is a year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
