The post-season is underway for the Laramie Legion Baseball program, as the Laramie Deputies are off to the ‘B’ Legion state tournament in Casper.

The Deputies are the JV level in the program. They are presently 16-9 on the season and have won 10 of their last 11 games entering the post-season.

Deputies’ manager Jeremy Threlkeld said they’re down to nine kids because of injuries and other items.

“The team has developed a little bit of a more family feeling to it… so I think that’s really allowed them to play at a higher level. The pitching’s developed, and the kids are just throwing better. I think we can play well and continue our hot streak.”

Laramie received the sixth seed in the tournament and will face the third-seeded Sheridan Jets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The ‘B’ Legion state tournament is a 10-team, double-elimination bracket.

Threlkeld said the sixth seed is fine with him because he’d rather play a higher seed earlier.

“We haven’t played four of the ten teams in the state tournament… We’re going to throw our ace, Dylan Chalmers, in the first game, no matter who we play. I’d rather play one of the top teams and throw our number one. Maybe, they underestimate us and throw their two or three.”

The roster is comprised of Jaykob Ahrenholtz, Dylan Chalmers, Judson Church, Beau Eckhardt, Ramon Gomez, Will Holzer, James Mallory, Michael Schutterle and Matt Smith.

The 17U Wyoming State ‘B’ Legion Baseball Tournament is being held at Mike Lansing Field in Casper.

The top two seeds are Gillette and Cheyenne. Other teams in the tournament include Evanston, Rock Springs, Cody, Green River, Wheatland and Rawlins.
