The Laramie County Sheriff's Department is trying to identify a bicyclist who was killed in a collision with a car late Monday afternoon, according to department spokeswoman.

Captain Linda Gesell says the accident happened a little before 5 p.m. on Memorial Day at U.S. Highway 30 at Polk Avenue. Investigators believe the bicyclist crossed in front of a Subaru Cross Trek that was north bound.

Gesell says the driver swerved in an attempt to miss the bicyclist, but was unable to do so. The bike struck the right front side of the car, and the bicyclist was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

She describes the bicyclist as being possibly in his mid-40s, about 5' 7" and weighing 135 pounds with strawberry blond hair with some streaks of gray, and blue eyes. He was wearing prescription eyeglasses and two multi-colored bike jackets, one of which was a Nike brand and the other Reebok.

He was also wearing Saucony shoes that were gray with black and green lettering. His bicycle helmet was black and gray with the brand name GIRO. He was riding a blue Scott Mountain Bike, with the word "Elite Racing" on it.

The name of the motorist isn't being released while investigators try to identify the bicyclist. Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call Detective Ryan Martinez at 633-4737.
