LaBonte Lake Smell is Highly Concerning to Laramie Parks and Rec Director [VIDEO]

The sulfur dioxide smell emitting from LaBonte Lake this summer has become a major issue for the City of Laramie.

Parks and Recreation Director Todd Feezer stopped by our morning show, 'Laramie Live on KOWB,' Monday to fill us in on what's happening, the treatment they've decided on and possible future steps to dealing with that issue.

The Solar Bee unit that is presently there “is working as it is intended to,” said Feezer. The warmer summer weather has hard more of an impact this year compared to last year according to Feezer.

Tuesday (today) the City of Laramie Parks and Recreation staff began treatment with a “beneficial bacteria” that has two purposes. One helps eat what’s at the bottom of the lake, while the other helps with the suspended solids at the surface that’s leading to the odor.

Feezer admits the decision to try this stems from financial reasons. They will explore more options in the future. When that might be will be determined at a later time. Feezer wants all residents to know he will keep on top of this issue.
