The Kmart in Laramie will be closing this summer, Sears Holdings has confirmed.

In an email to Laramie Live, a Kmart spokesperson said the store will close to the public in early August 2018.

“We are making the difficult, but necessary decision to close the Kmart store at 750 N. 3rd Street in Laramie,” said the spokesperson.

The store will remain open until then for customers. Kmart’s liquidation sale will begin on May 17.

In the email, the spokesperson said Sears Holdings has been “strategically and aggressively evaluation our store space and productivity, and have accelerated the closing of unprofitable store as previously announced.”

The spokesperson said that closing the stores is not merely a cost saving effort but part of a strategy they have been executing, as many of their larger stores are too big for their needs.

“Having fewer stores- and the right format- will help us bring Sear Holdings to a size and place to meet the realities of the changing retail world.”

The spokesperson said the number of associates at the store was not publicly available, but those associates would receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
