House Passes Suicide Prevention Legislation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The state House has passed a bill that would require suicide prevention education for teachers and school administrators.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports the bill was approved Thursday and goes to the Senate for final approval.

Senate File 78 would require teachers and administrators to receive at least eight hours of suicide prevention education every four school years. The training material would be approved by the Wyoming Department of Education.

New teachers and administrators would be required to get at least two hours of suicide prevention education during their first year of employment if they don't have similar training.

The House amended the bill to require school district boards to make suicide prevention education materials and classes available to the public.
