A new event will grace Laramie Jubilee Days this summer. The 1st Annual Rotary Club of Laramie & City of Laramie Horseshoe Tournament will take place on Saturday, July 14th at Washington Park.

"We were looking for another fundraiser for Rotary," said Rotary club member Kelso Kelly. "When we checked around, there hasn't been for a long time just a good old-fashioned, backyard horseshoe tournament and that's consistent with the kind of activities we like to do, so we decided to put it together."

There is room for 30 teams to participate in the tournament. Teams can be male, female or co-ed. Men will toss from 40 feet and women will toss from 30 feet. Registration costs $60 per team. The team that wins the single elimination tournament will get $300, 2nd place takes home $200 and 3rd place gets $100.

On Saturday, July 14th they'll have warm-ups and lunch from noon to 1 PM and then start the tournament. Games will be played to 21 points with a 45 minute time limit. Kelly pointed out that they will score leaners during the tournament and have an official available to help settle any scoring disputes. It should also be noted that this tournament is for community members, not for professionals.

The tournament is a sanctioned event of Laramie Jubilee Days. All proceeds will benefit underserved groups and person in the community through Rotary. The event is also sponsored by First National Bank, Laramie GM Auto Center, Big Huhnks Excavation, Inc., Fat Boys Tire & Auto, the Laramie Boomerang, Enterprise Leasing Company and First Interstate Bank.
