Jurors seated in the murder trial of Tim Harnden heard opening arguments in Laramie Monday. Harnden is charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 44-year-old Paul Hamilton.

Prosecutor Joshua Merseal told jurors that he intends to prove that Harnden did have malicious intent when he stabbed Hamilton. Defense attorney, Vaughn Neubauer claimed Hamilton caused his own death.

Investigators say Hamilton had an altercation with Harnden prior to their final meeting, where Hamilton pressed his knee to Harnden’s throat. Neubauer also said the night of the incident, Hamilton’s blood alcohol content was .18.
