Point guard A.J. Banks has been announced as the seventh addition to this year’s recruiting class for Wyoming Cowboy basketball by head coach Allen Edwards.

Banks is 6-2, 175 pounds, and is from Las Vegas, NV. He comes to UW from Pratt Community College in Kansas. Banks will have two years of eligibility with Cowboys.

Edwards said in a release from the University of Wyoming,

“We are excited because A.J. (Banks) fits what we were looking for with his size at the lead guard spot. He can play off the ball screen and really defend his position and has the ability to play above the rim. He is a tremendous student-athlete that fits the direction we are heading.”

Last season at Pratt, Banks averaged 11.2 points, three rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He shot 50 percent from the field and 40 beyond the arc. In his freshman season, Banks scored 6.9 points per game and dished out 2.3 assists per contest.

He played his prep ball at Cheyenne High School in Las Vegas. They went 16-7 Banks’ senior season. He averaged 11.4 points per game that year.

Wyoming assistant coach Shaun Vandiver said, “The biggest thing about A.J. (Banks) besides being a talented athlete is that he is just as good in the classroom. His potential is unlimited with his size, length and athleticism. One of his best traits is that he is very coachable. He is just a really great get for us.”

Banks was also recruited by Utah State, Pacific, Florida International, Jackson State and Stetson.
