Grillers will put their skills to the test this weekend at the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Griller’s Cup BBQ Cook-Off. The event takes place on Saturday, July 18 and will be held at the UW parking lot at 30th and Willett.

The public is invited to attend from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and sample BBQ, grilled sides, and desserts. There is no entry fee to attend the event. However, BBQ bucks are required to sample the food. One dollar equals one BBQ Buck, and they are sold in $10 increments. After purchasing BBQ Bucks, you have the chance to use them in a carnival style method to purchase samples of the fare.

The Griller’s Cup is the State Championship BBQ competition, with divisions for Amateur/Backyard BBQ and the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Awards will be provided for each category of meat and there will be a Special Sauce Award. Both divisions will be ran consecutively. All judging is done by KCBS certified judges.

Categories include ribs, chicken, pork and brisket.

A grand total of $7000 in is up for grabs.

In addition to a BBQ lunch, the event provides activities for the kids as well. Kids can play with bubbles, pounce in two inflatable bounce houses, draw on the sidewalks with chalk, sport temporary tattoos or get their faces painted.

The BBQ cook-off benefits the IMH Foundation’s Sandy Joy/Kris Kramschuster Healthcare Education Scholarship. This ensures there will be funds available to help IMH’s staff continue their education.
