The Grammy-nominated band, Brothers of the Baladi, will perform Thursday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. The program is free and open to the public.

The quartet blends traditional Middle Eastern music with Western instrumentation to create a hybrid of exotic world rhythms.

The members -- Michael Beach, J. Michael Kearsey, Clark Salisbury and Ashbolt Stewart -- all contribute unique elements of traditional, modern and hybrid musicality. The bilingual vocals feature lyrics in seven languages: Spanish, Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, Armenian, French and English.

The artists feature interactive demonstrations on traditional Middle Eastern instruments such as the doumbek, mizmar, midjwiz, def, riq and davul along with more unique variations such as the electric oud.

Individuals needing assistance to attend this event should call the Campus Activities Center at (307) 766-6340.
