Governor Mead Says UW President’s Search Should be As Open As Possible

Governor Matt Mead said during a news conference Friday that he believes the University of Wyoming trustees should tell the public who's on their list of finalists to become the next university president. A new law would allow the presidential search process to remain secret. Earlier this year Governor Mead allowed the measure to take effect without his signature. Now, UW trustees are preparing to look for a new president. Bob Sternberg announced his resignation after just four months on the job. UW trustees hired Sternberg after a mostly closed search process. Trustees said they wanted to protect candidates who held university jobs elsewhere.

Mead sayshe hopes the board finds a balance between the need to protect prospective candidates and keeping the process as open as possible.

It's our only university, and we care about it whether we went there or not.  And when there is a problem in the process like we saw with what happened with President Sternberg when it didn't work out, you know the more open it is the more buy-in from the citizens.
