The Globe Saxophone Quartet will perform a free concert Sunday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Education auditorium.

Four internationally renowned saxophonists -- Rhett Bender, John Bleuel, Jennifer Turpen and Scott Turpen -- comprise the Globe Saxophone Quartet. The group began playing together in 1994 as graduate students at the University of Georgia. The quartet members are professors of saxophone at universities across the United States: Bender, Southern Oregon University; Jennifer and Scott Turpen, UW; and Bleuel, University of West Georgia.

Early successes include twice competing in the semifinal round of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and winning first prize in 1995 at the NACWAPI National Symposium Chamber Music Competition.

The quartet has performed throughout the United States and Europe on chamber music series, including the Wyoming Cultural Outreach, Community Concerts Series and Britt Festival.

The GSQ concerts feature beautiful and multi-faceted works for four saxophones, with musical styles ranging from classical and jazz to world music.
