CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife officials are again planning to hand out free bear spray to hunters in Cody.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will have 100 cans of spray to offer on a first-come first-served basis on Sept. 20.

When hunters arrive at the check station for the free bear spray they will be asked if they have a hunting or fishing license and then be asked to fill out a survey.

Wildlife officials first offered the spray last year and were met with overwhelming demand. Officials say this year they expect the rush.

The Wyoming Outdoorsmen, Yellowstone Country Bear Hunters Association, and Bowhunters of Wyoming contributed fund to purchase the bear spray as Game and Fish's budget did not have cash to cover the giveaway.
