The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for southeastern Wyoming including the Laramie valley.

The watch covers the cities of Garrett, Bordeaux, Wheatland, Guernsey, Torrington, Bosler, Laramie, Buford, Pumpkin Vine, Vedauwoo, Whitaker, Federal, Horse Creek, Cheyenne and Pine Bluffs. It remains in effect from noon Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.

The Laramie River is not expected to flood as a result of the storm, but it will likely reach action stage according to Timothy Trudel, Senior Forecaster with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

"So right now it's right around six-point-eight feet, It's just below action stage, actually," Trudel said shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. He says the river is expected to crest at 7.7 feet next week. Minor flooding occurs at eight feet.

Repeated heavy rain may result from widespread showers and thunderstorms, potentially producing one to two inches of rainfall in a short period of time.

According to the watch, creeks and small rivers may rise rapidly in areas downstream where heavy rains persist. Drivers should never proceed when water covers a section of road, as there is no way to tell how deep the water is or whether it has damaged the roadway beneath.
