No injuries were reported after a fire broke out in a Laramie apartment building late Tuesday, but those living in the building were forced from their homes for the night.

A news release from the Laramie Fire Department says crews were dispatched to 1952 N. 9th St. at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a structure fire in the building at the corner of Ninth and Downey.

Heavy smoke and fire was coming from the two-story, seven-unit apartment building when Engine One arrived. That crew "committed to fire attack" and entered the building, according to the LFD release.

The fire was reportedly under control within 15 minutes of firefighters' arrival and was extinguished at 9:30 p.m.

A neighbor said Wednesday that no one was home in the apartment where the fire broke out when firefighters arrived Tuesday night. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters say the building's second-floor apartment and attic space were left with heavy fire and smoke damage.

All residents were accounted for and no one was injured, but they had to find someplace else to spend the night. The American Red Cross helped displaced residents find other lodging.

The response involved several agencies besides the Laramie Fire Department, including the Laramie Police Department, the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Rocky Mountain Power and Black Hills energy crews were on scene to secure utilities.

The Laramie Fire Department dispatched two engines, one unspecified aerial unit, an ambulance and a command vehicle.
