The 23rd annual Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival will be taking place July 18 through July 28 at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. This ten day festival provides participants with the chance to study with distinguished faculty and perform pieces at the Gala Performance. This year we are excited to announce our faculty comes from the Limón Dance Company. Along with special guests Tai Jimenez from Dance Theater of Harlem and Boston Ballet, Thayne Jasperson from the hit musical Hamilton, and James Sutton from NYU Tisch and New York Theatre Ballet.
“Hailed as one of the world’s greatest dance companies, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American Modern dance since its inception in 1946. The Company is the living legacy of dance theater developed by José Limón and his mentors, Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, whose innovative works revolutionized the American dance. After Limón’s death in 1972 the Company pioneered the idea that it was possible to survive the death of its founder, setting an example for the entire dance field. Now in its 67th year, the Company is renowned for its technical mastery and dramatic expression, and demonstrates both the timelessness of José Limón’s works and the humanistic vision that guides the repertory choices” (Limon.org).
The festival kicks off with great classes for students of all ages in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, and Hip-Hop. The students will also have the opportunity to audition and rehearse throughout the festival for the culminating Gala Performance. On Tuesday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. join us for the Student Showcase Concert at the Buchannan Center for the Performing Arts on Mainstage. The showcase allows dancers to perform choreography from their home studios. This event is free and open to the public.
The amazing ten day festival end with the Gala Performance on Saturday, July 28 at 4:00 p.m. in the Laramie High School Auditorium. This event is open to the public. Tickets to the Gala Performance are $12. Tickets can be purchased in person at the UW Fine Arts Box Office or online at uwyo.edu/finearts.
