Musician and Artist Dickie Landry is at the University of Wyoming until next Wednesday, Oct. 7, to interact with students and present a several free public events as part of an artistic residency.

His exhibition “Dickie Landry: Composer. Saxophonist. Photographer. Artist,” is on display at the U.W. Art Museum until Saturday, Dec. 19.  Composed of Landry’s drawings, photographs, and paintings, the exhibit explores innovations in music, visual art, and performance art in New York during the 1970s.

Landry will perform on saxophone and lead a walk-through of the gallery this Friday, Oct. 2, in UW’s Art Museum at 10:30 a.m.  This free public event will provide insight into the artist’s work and life, as well as a casual question-and-answer session with Landry.

That same evening at 6 p.m., Landry will present “Repetition and Response: An Interdisciplinary Student Collaboration Event” inside the lobby of the Visual Art Building.  Landry will speak, along with the artistic curator of the Center for the Arts in Jackson, Babs Case.  The artist will participate in interdisciplinary conversations with students as well as art, music, and dance experimentation.

“Dickie is a quintessential artist,” says Case. “His life has been his work. This performance will be unlike other performances because it is truly multidisciplinary. Our work in ‘Trialogue’ is not only of historical importance, but carries references to the modern day video mapping."

Before traveling to Jackson for a concurrent exhibition, Landry will give an art talk on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building, Room 111.  This will be his final event at the University of Wyoming.

All events are free and open to the public.  They are presented by the UW Art Museum, Art Association of Jackson Hole, Jackson Hole Center for the Arts, and Dancers’ Workshop.
