After a one year hiatus, the 7220 Slamfest is back and revamped. The demolition derby has been moved to the end of June and will feature trucks as well as full size and compact cars. The 7220 Slamfest will take place at the Albany County Fairgrounds on June 15 at 4 p.m.

Organizer Arvin Martinez said they decided to move the derby away from the Albany County Fair in hopes it would no longer compete with Cheyenne Frontier Days and other derbies in the region that take place at that time. In addition to moving the date of the derby, Martinez reports they will have much bigger trophies and the biggest trophy will go to the winner of the "Mad Dog Award" for the driver who gets after it the most during the races.

Also new this year will be the Y95 raffle car. Tickets will be $10 to enter the raffle and the winner will have their choice to drive the car or take $250 cash. Martinez reports that if the winner takes the cash, they'll most likely keep drawing until they get a driver for the raffle car.

Martinez is registering vehicles now for the derby. Rules and registration and release forms can be picked up at the Laramie Tire Factory. Drivers must be 16 years old and there will be no alcohol allowed in the pits.
