Let's say your New Year's Resolution is to learn a new skill, maybe even find a productive hobby that you can do with your off time. Or maybe you've always wanted to learn how to make something out of fiber. If you're that kind of person, the perfect place for you is with Cowgirl Yarn this winter and spring.

Cowgirl Yarn, the shop on Ivinson that's been a stitch of the Laramie community for nearly 14 years, is reaching out to invite anyone who wants to learn how to knit, crochet, or any other form of the fiber arts, to join them for their Sample-It event.

All you have to do is choose a project. That's it. You can make a scarf, or something as complicated as Lori Kirk, the owner of Cowgirl Yarn, is tackling. She's going to make a jacket for herself with the group this year.

"We're encouraging customers to try something new, a new fiber, a new discipline" Kirk said. "We've got someone that's learning how to use a different kind of needle, so they're experiencing something new- and that's what it's all about."

For this event, you need to commit to a project by January 7th, and work on it until March. The whole process is being run through an online platform called Ravelry, so you don't even have to be in town for the event. "A lot of people doing this are out of town also. People can post their progress. Some are doing it on their own or in class events. It's what you're comfortable with," Kirk said.

To experience the Sample-It event, Cowgirl Yarn offers a special discount when you buy the materials for your new project, and then when you show off the finished result, you'll get a second discount to get ready for the next one.

Kirk says it's all about: "Getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new."

You don't even have to be new to knitting, just push yourself to do a new project:

"I just want to thank them for their continued loyalty and we really appreciate all the things that they do," Owner Lori Kirk says to her continued patrons and the community of Cowgirl Yarn. "And we love when they come in and show off their finished project.
