(UWYO.EDU) First year head coach Chad Callihanand the Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team concluded the preseason with their Brown and Gold scrimmage Friday evening in front of a large crowd at the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Brown Team edged out the Gold Team in four sets (25-27, 25-20, 30-28, 25-20) in the Cowgirls' final tune-up for the regular season opener next week.

"It was great to see the fans out to support us tonight," said Callihan. "The real game atmosphere will serve us well as we open the season next Friday."

The Brown Team was led by sophomore Bridget Shanahan as she recorded a match-high 18 kills, Shanahan also hit .607 on the night. Freshman Kaity Edwardsled the Gold Team with 17 kills, she also was effective defensively with six blocking assists.

Junior Whitney Smithdished out 52 assists on the night as she saw time on both squads.

"I thought it was good to get the nerves and the jitters out tonight," said Callihan. "We did a lot of things really well and we can get ready to fix some things going into next weekend."

The Cowgirls will open non-conference play next weekend at home. They will host the UniWyo Wyoming Invite, Fri.-Sat., August 30-31, with competition against Drake, Idaho, Montana State and Stetson.
