Cowboys Pull Away to Beat Pioneers 68-52

The Wyoming Cowboys closed the game on a 21-4 run and won at Denver for the first time since 2001. The final score was 68-52 Wednesday night.

Wyoming (5-2) won its third straight game and first on the road this season.

The Cowboys trailed 48-47 with 7:41 left. After a pair of Josh Adams free throws, a 3-point play by Alan Herndon provided the spark for the game-ending surge. Jason McManamen knocked in a key 3 from the left wing. Adams added a steal and lay-in, followed by a dunk on the next possession for a 61-48 advantage.

Wyoming's defense didn't allow a Pioneers point until a free throw with 1:17 remained.

Josh Adams led UW with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Alexander Aka Gorski scored a career-high 15 points. Alan Herndon contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Jason McManamen added 10 points. The Cowboys shot 53 percent from the field and knocked down eight 3-pointers. They also went 20-of-24 (83%) from the free throw line and had a 29-21 edge on the glass.

Denver (5-2) saw their five-game win streak come to an end. The Pioneers were led by Bryant Rucker with 17 points. They shot 40 percent, but only 16 percent from deep.

Wyoming returns home Saturday to host the California Golden Bears from the PAC-12 in a "Gold Rush" at 1 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
