The New Mexico Lobos scored 46 seconds into the game and beat the Wyoming Cowboys 38-28 in the Mountain West opener for both teams.

New Mexico (2-2, 1-0) junior quarterback Lamar Jordan ran 56 yards for the score and gave the Lobos a lead they never relinquished. Jordan rushed for 147 yards, plus threw for 107 and another score.

Jhurell Pressley added 103 yards rushing and a touchdown run of 19-yards that gave New Mexico a 14-0 lead.

The closest the Cowboys got was 14-7 early in the second quarter. Cam Coffman connected with Shaun Wick on a 13-yard touchdown pass.

The Lobos answered with a Jordan to Carlos Wiggins 64-yard t-d pass and a 3-yard scoring run by Richard McQuarley for a 28-7 lead. McQuarley's second t-d run of 43 yards on fourth and one put New Mexico ahead 35-14 midway through the third quarter.

New Mexico had 409 yards of total offense compared to 408 for UW.

Coffman also threw touchdown passes to Jacob Hollister, Tanner Gentry and Josh Harshman. He finished with 366 yards passing, but also tossed two interceptions and was sacked three times. Gentry had nine catches for 130 yards. Lucas Wacha led the Cowboys defense with 13 total tackles. Ten of those were solo stops.

Wyoming (0-4, 0-1) managed only 42 yards on the ground, as they dropped their seventh straight game going back to last season. Another area that hurt the Cowboys was 10 penalties for 98 yards. Both were season highs.

The Pokes next game is Saturday at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m.
