The Laramie City Council will meet with State Legislators from Albany County for a work session at the Laramie Community Recreation Center tonight at 6 p.m.

Laramie Mayor Andrea Summerville said the meeting, which happens once a year, gives the City Council the opportunity to sit down with Albany County legislators and discuss upcoming issues that might be pertinent to the state legislature.

“It gives us a chance for a dialogue on any legislation or bills that are already out there, or to discuss any upcoming issues,” Summerville said.

Summerville said she expects the budget to be one of the main topics discussed at the meeting.

“I know that we will be discussing budget,” Summerville said. “And reviewing where the City of Laramie is in terms of the budget cuts it has taken with the reduction in state funding and how that’s impacted.”

Earlier this year the City of Laramie was anticipating a 43 percent reduction in state revenue. It was later announced that an additional $500,000 would be cut from the budget for the current fiscal year.

Summerville said the discussion of the budget is especially important, as the budget season is coming up soon for the legislature.

Summerville said the event is open to the public, however there is no public comment session scheduled for the meeting.
